L'Islande est traversée par une faille séparant progressivement les plaques tectoniques de l'Europe et de l'Amérique du Nord.
Le compositeur Atli Örvarsson plaisante : "C'est toute ma vie !". Originaire de la ville d'Akureyri, au nord de l'Islande, Atli Örvarsson s'impose très jeune sur la scène musicale locale. Il obtient trois disques de platine et deux disques d'or en tant que membre du groupe islandais "Salin Hans Jons Mins", avant d'étudier la musique de film au Berklee College of Music et à la North Carolina School of the Arts. Titulaire de la bourse Pete Carpenter Fellowship, il s'envole pour Los Angeles. Un rêve Américain ... Atli Örvarsson commence à travailler aux côtés du vétéran de la télévision Mike Post sur NYPD Blue et la franchise Law and Order. Il attire rapidement l'attention du compositeur Hans Zimmer, qui l'invite à rejoindre Remote Control Productions. Au cours des années qui vont suivre, il composera et orchestrera de nombreuses partitions pour de grosses productions Hollywoodiennes, dont Pirates des Caraïbes, Stuart Little 3, Iron Man, The Eagle, Vantage Point, Babylon A.D., Man of Steel... et pour NBC TV Series, dont Chicago Fire et ses nombreuses franchises. D'un continent à l'autre ... Atli Örvarsson rejoint JPAgency en 2014 pour nouer des liens plus étroits avec les productions européennes. Sa première collaboration islandaise pour le film Hrùtar ( Béliers / Rams) réalisé par Grímur Hákonarson remportera le Prix "Un Certain Regard" au Festival de Cannes en 2015 ... Un premier pas très encourageant ! Suite à son expérience sur deux films indépendants, A Single Shot avec Sam Rockwell et Hrùtar, Atli Örvarsson décide de revenir s'installer à Akureyri, estimant que le cinéma européen lui permettra de s'exprimer de manière plus personnelle. Il composera la musique de la mini-série islandaise The Lava Field ( Meurtre Au Pied Du Volcan ), suivie par le film danois Pound For Pound et Ploey, le premier film d'animation 100% islandais. Atli Örvarsson retourne régulièrement à Los Angeles où il continue de composer pour nombre de séries et de films. Son aventure européenne a porté ses fruits de l'autre coté de l'Atlantique, lui permettant aujourd'hui de travailler sur des projets plus proches de sa vision artistique, tels que The Edge of Seventeen réalisé par Kelly Fremon Craig ou The Hitman's Bodyguard de Patrick Hugues. En 2023, Atli choisit de s'installer ... à Londres. Il signe la musique de la série d'animation française Runes, celle du long métrage Sous Emprise de David Rosenthal, diffusé sur Netflix. On lui doit également le score inspiré de la série Silo diffusée sur Apple TV + et Canal +. |

Originally from the small town of Akureyri, in the North of Iceland, Atli Örvarsson established himself in the local music scene from a young age. He earned three platinum and two gold records as a member of the Icelandic band "Salin Hans Jons Mins", before studying film scoring at Berklee College of Music and the North Carolina School of the Arts. He excelled in composing and was awarded the Pete Carpenter Fellowship, which took him to Los Angeles.
An American dream
Atli Örvarsson began working alongside TV veteran Mike Post on NYPD Blue and the Law and Order franchise.
He rapidly caught the attention of composer Hans Zimmer, who invited him to join Remote Control Productions.
For the following years, he composed and orchestrated scores for some of Hollywood's biggest projects, including the Pirates of the Caribbean series, Stuart Little 3, Iron Man, The Eagle, Vantage Point, Babylon A.D., Man of Steel … and NBC TV series such as Chicago Fire.
From one continent to the other
Atli Örvarsson joined JPAgency in 2014 to reinvigorate his European ties and connections. His first Icelandic collaboration was the film Rams directed by Grímur Hákonarson which went on to win the 2015 ‘Un Certain Regard Award’ at the Cannes Festival.
A very encouraging first step! After A Single Shot with Sam Rockwell and Rams, Atli Örvarsson decided to move back to Akureyri. This personal and professional choice was made as he feels that European cinema allows him to express himself in a more personal way. He composed the music for the Icelandic miniseries The Lava Field, swiftly followed by the Danish film Pound For Pound and Ploey, the first 100% Icelandic animated film.
Atli Örvarsson regularly returns to Los Angeles and continues to compose many scores for various series and films. His international reputation and masterly evolution has recently allowed him to work on projects close to his artistic vision on both sides of the Atlantic, such as The Edge of Seventeen directed by Kelly Fremon Craig orThe Hitman's Bodyguard by Patrick Hugues.
In 2023, Atli chooses to settle... in London !.
He scored the French animated series Runes, as well as David Rosenthal's feature film Sous Emprise, broadcast on Netflix.
He also wrote the inspired score for the series Silo, broadcast on Apple TV + and Canal +.
