ERIC NEVEUX
ENGLISH VERSION
For Eric Neveux, music is a vocation that meets cinema in the year of his 25th birthday.
Fascinated by the Downtempo scene in Bristol, Eric has just signed, under the name of Mr Neveux, the album TUBA for the Cup of Tea Records label. François Ozon, fresh from FEMIS, asked him to compose the music for his first medium-length film Regarde La Mer, then for his first feature film Sitcom. From then on, Eric Neveux was determined to combine Music and Cinema with the future.
His meeting with Patrice Chéreau for Ceux Qui M'aiment Prendront Le Train, in the official selection of the 1998 Cannes Film Festival, was decisive and founding. In contact with a director as demanding as he is creative, Eric Neveux will deepen his cinematographic approach to composition in terms of meaning and narrative. He will write the score of Intimacy, Golden Bear Award at the Berlin Festival in 2001, then Persecution, which won an award at the Venice Mostra in 2009, and will follow his mentor to the Theatre for a series of remarkable collaborations.
With more than 70 feature films, Eric Neveux has naturally established itself as the preferred partner of original and demanding auteur filmmakers: Rachid Bouchared ( American Trilogy ), Isabelle Czajka ( La Vie Domestique ), Emmanuelle Bercot ( Standing Tall, at the opening of the 2015 Cannes Film Festival), Ziad Doueiri ( The Attack, then The Insult nominated for the Oscars 2018 ). In 2020, he wrote the score for Emmanuelle Bercot's beautiful film De Son Vivant, in official selection at the Cannes Film Festival, which won Benoît Magimel a César for Best Actor.
His style has also established itself in mainstream films such as Poly by Nicolas Vanier (2020) or Laurent Tirard's Nicolas on Holiday, ambitious documentaries for the cinema ( Il Ètait Une Forêt by Luc Jacquet ) and television ( Inside Obama's White House for the BBC ), as well as a number of TV films, including Philippe Triboit's Un Homme Abimé and L'Enfant de Personne by Akim Isker, both awarded at the La Rochelle TV Festival.
The animation film has provided him with a beautiful playground, and he will play virtuoso with Toby Genkel & Reza Memary's A Stork's Journey, Arthur De Pins and Alexis Ducord's Zombillénium (Official Selection 2017 at the Cannes Film Festival and the Annecy International Animation Film Festival) and Samsam de Tanguy de Kermel (release in 2020). In 2023, he records the score of the Aventures de Ricky (2023) directed by Mette Ranke-Tange.
As for series, we can mention, among others, Tom Fontana's Borgia for Canal +, the 7 seasons of Un Village Français, and more recently, for his accomplice Ziad Doueiri, the soundtrack of Dérapages for Arte and Netflix, then Black Hearts broadcast on Prime Video and France TV.
For Eric Neveux, everything is a quest for meaning and sound.
His work of composition and production, as passionate as it is demanding, is carried by an inspiration that draws on the sources of various musical currents, which he does not hesitate to divert, the colours of a singular and very personal writing at the sole service of the image.
