PAUL LAY
Unanimement reconnu comme « l’un des plus grands pianistes de jazz de sa génération » (Le Monde), Paul Lay a obtenu les prix les plus prestigieux tel le Grand prix de l’Académie Charles Cros en 2014 pour son disque « Mikado » qui le distingue sur la scène internationale en tant que créateur.
En 2017, il sort un nouvel album de compositions : « The Party », avec Dre Pallemaerts et Clemens Van Der Feen, qui reçoit l’accueil enthousiaste de la critique et du public. Artiste instrumental de l’année aux Victoires du Jazz (2020), Paul Lay est le lauréat des Prix de Soliste du Concours de la Défense, Concours de Piano-Jazz de Moscou, Concours Martial Solal, Concours de Montreux et Prix Django Reinhardt de l’Académie du jazz. Compositeur prolifique, il porte différents projets en son nom, en solo, duo et trio, ainsi qu’avec chœur et orchestre symphonique. En 2024, Paul crée deux programmes dont il signe les partitions : « Waves of light » pour trio de jazz et chœur de chambre (enregistrement à paraître à l’automne 2025) et « Rhapsody in blue extended » pour trio de jazz et orchestre, dont la première mondiale a lieu au festival Jazzdor, avec l’Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg sous la direction de Wayne Marshall. 2025 voit également la création d’« Un français à New York » avec l’Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire, œuvre originale de Paul Lay librement inspirée du célèbre poème symphonique de Gershwin Un Américain à Paris. Pour ses premiers pas élégants au cinéma, Paul compose la bande originale du film Ravens, biopic du célèbre photographe japonais Masahisa Fukase, réalisé par Mark Gill, et récompensé du prix du public au Festival du film d’Austin au Texas en 2024. |
